Although Apple's latest iOS 6 update marks the end of Evasi0n's jailbreak, it didn't take long for another break-in.
Courtesy of RedmondPie, Redsn0w has launched a tethered jailbreak, but it is limited to specific Apple devices.
The Redsn0w tethered jailbreak is compatible for the new iOS 6.1.3 update; however, the software only applies to the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and the fourth-generation iPod Touch. The iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and the fifth-generation iPod Touch will not work with the new tethered jailbreak.
According to RedmondPie, the new tethered jailbreak works on pre-A5 devices, which are vulnerable to the Limera1n exploit.
In order to obtain the Redsn0w jailbreak, the following is needed:
- Redsn0w 0.9.15b3 (Available for Windows and Mac),
- iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G running iOS 6.1.3.
- iOS 6.
It is important to note that due to the jailbreak being tethered, the user will need to connect their device to their computer if they need a reboot.
"If all has gone well, Redsn0w will now start doing its magic in the background: jailbreaking your device using the Limera1n exploit and installing Cydia in order for you to install and run third-party tweaks or packages. This process should not last more than just a few minutes," RedmondPie noted.

As Latinos Post reported, Apple released the iOS 6.1.3 update last week in an effort to fix a lock screen bypass issue and improve Japan in Apple Maps. In addition, Apple provided patches to the areas Evasi0n utilized for their jailbreaks.
Evasi0n did prepare for the day an Apple update ceased their jailbreaks. While iOS 6.1.3 was in beta testing. Evasi0n's David Wang told Forbes that the then-beta update might signal the end of their hacking. He added he was still testing the patch if other vulnerabilities created by the jailbreak still function post-update.
"If one of the vulnerabilities doesn't work, evasi0n doesn't work," Wang said. "We could replace that part with a different vulnerability, but [Apple] will probably fix most if not all of the bugs we've used when 6.1.3 comes out."
Current iOS 6.1.2 users who have used Evasi0n's jailbreak are urged not to upgrade to iOS 6.1.3, as the jailbreak will be erased. Users will be unable to downgrade back to a previous iOS 6 update after going to iOS 6.1.3.
