Verizon Wireless on Friday announced that two of its popular handhelds, the Motorola Droid RAZR and the DROID RAZR Maxx, were ready to make the "global jump" to the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The news release announced that the upgrades started on June 22 and that all smartphones in the DROID RAZR family are eligible for the "jump".

The Ice Cream Sandwich is Android's latest version of the mobile operating system and in this case some of the upgraded functionalities include:

1. Better & more comfortable multitasking
2. Creating folders for Apps function
3. Faster Browsing
4. Customizable Launch Bar
5. Global Roaming - voice and data services in 220 countries globally
6. Face Unlock - automatically unlocks the phone when the camera recognizes the owner's face
7. Direct Access Lock Screen - allows users to access common functions such as texting and the camera from the lock screen

Owners can also make use of the voice input technology that allows one to write text or emails via speech. This function also allows you to add punctuation and edit mistakes according to the release.

The total size of the software is 354 megabytes and it'll approximately take 20 to 70 minutes to upload it depending on network conditions.
