The Pacific Rim Facebook page has just unveiled a new image from the film, as well as the first official Kaiju name.
We've seen a blurrier version of this image before in the Pacific Rim trailer, but seeing a clean photo really gives us a sense of the monster's scale. The Facebook page post describes it as:
"The infamous first Kaiju, Trespasser, slaughtered hundreds of thousands."
So not only do we have the first official codename for a Kaiju, we've also learned that this is the very first one to appear (and presumably the first one the humans were able to kill).
This new image comes hot on the heels of four other Facebook images, each showing a different aspect of the aftermath of a Kaiju attack.
"A chilling reminder of a Kaiju attack."
"This is as close as you ever want to get to Kaiju blood."
"Kaiju Blue clean-up detail: an endless, thankless task."
"We will rebuild the city around its bones."
Pacific Rim will hit theaters on July 12, 2013.
"When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes - a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) - who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse."
