On March 19th the Vienna State Opera announced their 2013-14 season.
The Vienna Opera season will present 350 performances which includes six new productions. The first new production of season will be Puccini's "La Fanciulla del West" with Nina Stemme and Jonas Kaufmann. The company will also present a new "Magic Flute" with Anita Hartig, and Dvorak's "Rusalka" with Krassimira Stoyanova.
David McVicar's "Adriana Lecouvreur" will make its premiere with Angela Gheorghiu, Massimo Giordano and Roberto Frontali. In April Wagner's "Lohengrin" receives a new production with Camilla Nyland and Klaus Florian Vogt. The last new production of the season will be Janacek's "The Cunning Little Vixen" will also get a new production with Gerald Finley.
Notable revivals will include Donizetti's "Anna Bolena" with Stoyanova, Sonia Ganassi and Luca Pisaroni, and Offenbach's "Les Contes d'Hoffman with Piotr Beczala, Ildar Abdrazakov, and Marina Rebeka. The season will come to a close with Wagner's Ring Cycle with Nina Stemme and Stephen Gould.
The season will also align the biggest stars in the industry including Placido Domingo (Madama Butterfly, Nabucco), Leo Nucci (Rigoletto), Bryn Terfel (Tosca), Ben Heppner (Peter Grimes), Renee Fleming (Der Rosenkavalier), Rolando Villazon (Don Giovanni, Eugene Onegin), Anna Netrebko (Faust), Thomas Hampson (Simon Boccanegra), Ferrucio Furlanetto (Simon Boccanegra, Don Carlos, Boris Godunov), Ramon Vargas (Don Carlo, Un Ballo in Maschera, Manon), Olga Borodina (Aida), Dimitri Hvorostovsky (Otello), Anja Harteros (Otello) Jose Cura (Otello), Elina Garanca, Juan Diego Florez (La Fille du Regmient) and Edita Gruberova (Norma).
Notable debuts include those of Mojca Erdmann, Bryan Hymel, Michele Losier, Laurent Naouri, Eric Owens and Michaela Martens.
The season will also include a Verdi Gala to celebrate the composer's Bicentenial and the annual Opera Ball. The company's seasons opens on September 3rd and runs through the end of June.
