Gears of War: Judgment will allow players to get a leg up on competition in multiplayer matches by allowing gamers to buy double experience points, among other microtransactions in the game.
Those who bought the game's VIP pass for 1600 Microsoft Points ($19.99) will receive a permanent boost of double experience, while other players can buy double experience points in increments of 10, 50, 100, and 200 batches for various amounts of Microsoft Points.
In addition, Judgment comes with 22 armor skins and 16 weapon skins gamers can purchase. The static armor and weapon skins cost 320 and 240 Microsoft Points respectively, while fully-animated armor and weapon skins cost 400 and 320 Microsoft Points each. Players can buy the Total Skins pack for 4000 Microsoft Points ($49.99), which almost the game's price tag itself. Players can buy smaller packs for the skins from 800-2800 Microsoft Points if they do not have $50 to spend on optional aesthetic changes that will make them more visible to opponents.
Judgment is the latest in a line of blockbuster games to have in-game microtransactions available to players. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Dead Space 3, and Mass Effect 3 all had the option for players to buy various extras in the game. Furthermore, Gears of War 3 allowed players to buy weapon and character skins as well.
While some may complain about unskilled players being able to buy their way to higher levels, it should not effect gameplay drastically. If players want to spend more money on top of the $60 they spent on the game on bright pink weapons and double experience, then let them have at it.
