Amazon has lowered the price for their Kindle Fire HD 8.9" as it introduces the tablet to new continents.

Amazon announced it is expanding coverage of the Kindle Fire HD 8.9-inches, the largest of the Kindle tablets, across France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Only one Asian country will experience the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" first and that will be Japan.

With the expansion, prices in the U.S. will see a drop with the 16GB Wi-Fi version starting at $269 while the 32GB version of the 4G variant will now start at $399. The 32GB Wi-Fi only version starts at $299 while the 64GB model stays at $499.

"We're thrilled with customer reaction to Kindle Fire HD 8.9". Customers tell us they love our large-screen version of Kindle Fire HD for web browsing, email, gaming, watching TV shows, reading magazines, and more," said Amazon Kindle Vice President Dave Limp.

"As we expand Kindle Fire HD 8.9" to Europe and Japan, we've been able to increase our production volumes and decrease our costs. Across our business at Amazon, whenever we are able to create cost efficiencies like this, we want to pass the savings along to our customers."

In the U.K., the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" 16GB model starts at £229, €269 in Germany, and ï¿¥24,800 in Japan.

The Kindle Fire HD 8.9" has an 8.9-inch screen with 1,920x1,200 pixel resolution at 254 pixels per inch, 16GB and 32GB internal storage, 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, up to 10 hours of battery life, and utilizes the Android operating system.
