Will Wayne Rooney leave Manchester United?
After being benched in the all important match against Real Madrid in the Champions league, speculation ran rampant that the Englishman's days with the Red Devils could be numbered.
Among the teams reportedly interested in buying Rooney off of Sir Alex Ferguson are Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco. According to NESN, current Paris Saint-Germain star Zlatan Ibrahimovic could leave the team and open up a £35 million bid for Rooney. The report notes that Ibrahimovic is unhappy with his life in Paris and might look for a move this summer.
AS Monaco has apparently told Rooney's camp that the team is willing to make a huge offer for his services. Bayern Munich was recently rumored to be in the hunt for his services, and NESN reports that Rooney may be interested in Barcelona.
However, this ultimately comes down to whether or not Manchester is will to deal their former franchise star. Recent comments seem to indicate that the team is not the least bit interested in moving Rooney. "We don't want players to leave. He'll definitely be here next season, there's no doubt about that," said Ferguson.
Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton echoed Ferguson's sentiments. "I think that is a bit premature [to question Rooney's future]," Charlton said. "I don't know everything that happens at Manchester United, but I know a little... Wayne Rooney maybe has had an injury and has not performed as well as he might have done, but that doesn't mean to say that you get rid of him."
He added, "Sir Alex Ferguson came out and said that he had no intention of letting Wayne Rooney go anywhere. You have to abide by that and I believe it, 100%. He is a great player - why should we get rid of a great player?"
