Galatasaray continued its tremendous run in the Champions League with a resounding 3-2 win over Schalke 04.

Galatasaray was in dire need of an away goal after drawing 1-1 with Schalke. The team got off to a 1-1 draw when Roman Neustädter knocked in a rebound off a corner. The cross created a mad scramble that eventually found Neustädter in slot. After the goal, Schalke backed off and played a more conservative style but a 37th minute blast from Hamit Altintop leveled the score. Five minutes later Galatasaray took the lead when Burak Yilmaz raced down the right wing and blasted the ball into the net.

Schalke battled back in the second half and was rewarded with a 63 minute goal from Michel Bastos. Bastos' goal was the product of an error from Galatasaray defender Fernando Muslera. The keeper fumbled a shot from Marco Hoger that had hit the post and the rebound went to Atsuto Uchida who passed it to an open Bastos.

As the game wound down, it seemed like Galatasaray would qualify thanks to the away goal. However, the team made sure that its qualification was never in doubt. While Schalke battled hard to score the game winner, the team left itself open to a counter attack and Umut Bulut made them pay in the waning seconds of the game.
