Sprint has officially rolled out an Android update for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.
As of Monday, Sprint is offering an update to Android operating system version 4.1.1, also known as the Jelly Bean.
As outlined in the Sprint Community pages, the update is available over the air (OTA). According to the carrier, the update notification will be "pushed automatically" to owners of the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 "during the next few weeks."
Sprint noted that once the download is complete, owners will then be prompted to install the update.
The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 will be disabled during installation, which will take a few minutes to complete.
According to Sprint, "stunning" graphical functions and enhanced features are included in the update. In addition, Google Now will be installed.
"Google Now gets you just the right information at just the right time, like how much traffic to expect before you leave for work or when the next train will arrive as you're standing on the platform," Sprint noted. "Google Now can be accessed by launching the Google app from the app tray."
The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 features a screen size of 10.1 inches with a 1,280x800 pixel resolution at 149 pixels per inch, 16GB and 32GB internal storage variants with 1GB of RAM, rear-facing 3.15-megapixel camera with 2,048x1,536 pixels, front-facing camera at 640x480 pixels with VGA cam, 7,000 mAh battery capacity, standby time up to 2,000 hours, talk time up to 10 hours, and available in black and white color options.
"Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 brings Sprint 4G LTE to a new category of device and expands a portfolio already recognized as one of the industry's best," said Sprint Vice President for Product Development David Owens last November. "This new tablet combined with the Sprint 4G LTE network and our aggressively priced tablet rate plan options offer consumers and business users an exciting new way to stay connected and productive with a large workspace in an easily portable device."
