Alfa Romeo is making a return to the U.S. with the release of a single model-the sporty 4C.
And the Italian hot rod features rear-wheel drive, ultra-lightweight carbon-fiber construction and a mid-engine chassis layout, as well as tons of sex appeal. This car is hot and ready to hit the U.S. market.
The concept rendition of the 4C first made its debut at the Geneva auto show two years ago and not much is expected to change from the show car to the production model.
The styling and size of the 4C remains the same, about 157.5 inches from front to rear, with a wide stature of 78.7 inches. The roof is measured at 46.5 inches from the ground---very short for its size.
And this baby is light too.
The automaker said that their curb weight goal for the 4C was less than 1,870 pounds and it looks as though they may have achieved that, especially with the help from carbon fiber construction.
As far as the powertrain, expect a 1.7-liter four-cylinder direct-injected turbocharged engine that produces 240 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.
And to spice things up even more, the automaker is expected to come out with a high performance 4C model that sports an engine capable of 270 horsepower.
But some disappointing news for all you stickshifters out there, the 4C will only be paired with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Pricing has not yet been released for Alfa Romeo's new model, but its expected to be in the $55,000 range that with an expected on-sale date later in the year.
