Toyota unveiled the FT-86 concept convertible at the Geneva auto show, enticing Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S fans with the chance that the automaker might release a topless rendition of the rear-wheel drive sports car in the future.
The show model that was introduced on the exhibition floor in Geneva featured design work from Toyota Boshoku Milan Design with a white and blue color scheme and a navy blue top, creating a very attractive contrasting look. As for the interior, sporty perforated, white leather seats over a navy backing accented with golden stitching and carpets polish off the drop-top concept car.
The top and rear window will fold down and store inside the rear seats and is not expected to take up a large amount of luggage space, according to the automaker.
As far as performance, the chassis and powertrain are expected to remain the same as the coupe model with a Subaru-derived 2.0-liter engine with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
It is still unknown whether the convertible will go into production, but Toyota says that they are currently experimenting with the performance, balance, weight, aerodynamics and rigidity of the drop-top model.
There are definitely a lot of people who would be happy to see the Subaru BRZ and identical twin model, the Scion FR-S, topless.
In fact, renderings of a convertible version of both models surfaced the web recently, reinforcing the idea that the drop-top would stir up a lot of excitement among BRZ and FR-S fans.
But at least the eager fans can see what a convertible rendition might look like if it ever hits production and be comforted by the idea that it might actually become a reality.
