If you can't wait to get your hands on the next Ninja Turtles game, you won't have to wait long. Activision announced today that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows will be released this summer on the Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and the PC.

Activision also revealed that it is the first of three planned Ninja Turtles games from the company. The game trilogy is based on Nickelodeon's new animated series, and will be a third person "brawler" style action game.

It will be set in New York City, and will allow up to four players team up online as Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael.

The game is being developed by Red Fly Studios, an Austin, Texas based game company that developed Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars, as well as the Wii ports of Ghostbusters: The Video Game and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II.

No price point or specific release date was revealed. It is expected that we'll hear more about the subsequent two games in the coming months.

Activision is the third gaming publisher to gain the rights to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. Konami had a long running string of titles from 1989 to 2005, before Ubisoft took over in 2007.

Nickelodeon's new animated series debuted in September, and was a fairly big success, drawing almost 12 million viewers during its first weekend. The show is a reboot of sorts, and follows the adventures of the four turtle brothers.
