While Crysis may have started out as a PC game, it's now undoubtedly a multiplatform franchise. In fact, Crysis 3 was actually well on track to be released on the Wii U, strangely enough.

In an interview with VentureBeat, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli revealed that the company had actually gotten the game to run on Nintendo's console. Unfortunately for Wii gamers though, it looks like bad business between Electronic Arts and Nintendo killed that initiative.

"We were very close to launching it," Yerli said. "But there was a lack of business support between Nintendo and EA on that. Since we as a company couldn't launch on the Wii U ourselves--we don't have a publishing license--Crysis 3 on Wii U had to die."

The game has actually had a long and complicated history with the console. In May 2012, Crytek director of creative development Rasmus Hoejengaard flatly stated there was, "not a fat chance" that Crysis 3 would appear on the Wii U. That didn't surprise many considering how graphically intense it was rumored to be.

However, just two months later, Cevat Yerli revealed that a Wii U version might be a possibility. Just as gamers were getting around to the idea though, in January Yerli stepped in to confirm once and for all, there would be no Crysis 3 on the Wii.  The game officially launched on February 19 for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.

What exactly happened between Nintendo and Electronic Arts is currently unknown, but there are similar reports that the former is having trouble keeping developers interested in its console offerings. Considering the lukewarm reception Nintendo has gotten to its next-gen system, it seems very likely that the next wave of consoles, the PlayStation 4 and "Xbox 720," could very well even up the console war.
