Chelsea's quest to salvage its poor season continues when the team takes on Middlesbrough in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Chelsea has lost in the Champions league and will not win the English Premier league. The team must win the Europa League and the FA Cup if it hopes to salvage what increasingly looks like a lost season. The team will face off against against Middlesbrough, the seventh place team in the English League.
How They Got Here
Chelsea entered the FA Cup in the third round when it faced off against Southampton. Chelsea took a 5-1 win with goals from Demba Ba (two goals), Branislav Ivanovic, Frank Lampard, and Victor Moses. In the fourth round, Chelsea drew 2-2 in the first leg with Brentford. Oscar and Fernando Torres were the scorers for Chelsea in that matchup; the Blues never led in the entire game. Many thought that Chelsea's underwhelming performance in the first matchup would lead to an upset in the rematch, but Rafa Benitez's squad responded with a 4-0 destruction of Brentford. Juan Mata, Oscar, Lampard, and John Terry tallied for Chelsea.
Middlesbrough entered the tournament in the third round as well and put up a resounding 4-1 win over Hastings United. In that game Andy Halliday, Merouane Zemmama (two goals), and Ishmael Miller tallied for the team. In the fourth round, Middlesbrough took down Aldershot Town 2-1 with two goals from Lukas Jutkiewicz.
Predictions: Chelsea's unpredictable play this season would lend reasons to believe an upset possible. However, they will not disappoint and will pull out a 3-0 win.
