God of War: Ascension hits stores on March 12, but if you just can't wait, the game's launch trailer has just been released online. The game is the seventh installment in the God of War series, and serves as a prequel to the first game.

The game takes place just a few months after Ares tricks Kratos into killing his own family. Players will once again control Kratos as he attempts to defeat the three Furies and sever his ties with the God of War. The creators have stated that they are trying to give people, "a look at Kratos' human side so fans can relate to him better and understand some of the stuff he went through when he was younger."

The trailer does a pretty good job of setting up the game's story, as well as showcasing the pretty stellar graphics. As one of the last major titles released before Sony launches the PlayStation 4, it's good to see the current gen system get a nice send-off.

Game Director Todd Papy describes the game on the official PlayStation Blog:

"Make your stand against a Titanic beast and its infected legions. Unleash your Rage in fiery explosions that burn your enemies to ash. Impale enemies on your chained blades and use them in combat as living wrecking balls. Wield the weapons of your enemies in countless new combos. Climb and slide your way through the chaos as the world turns upside down around you."

Sounds like some big promises, but if the trailer is any indication, it just might live up to them.

God of War: Ascension will be available exclusively for the PlayStation 3 on March 12. A single player demo is set to launch later today on the PlayStation Network. The final game will also feature a multiplayer component with up to eight players, and is being developed by SCE Santa Monica Studio.
