Google has everybody waiting for the highly-anticipated Google Glass. Expected to be a game changer, Google Glass may be coming out sooner than you think - a new report states that the device will be available to the masses by the end of 2013.
Reports from CNET and The Verge state that sources have confirmed that Google will indeed release Google Glass for less than $1,500 before 2013 draws to an end. Given recent events, it's certainly looking like Google is fast tracking this project straight to retail shelves.
Google just kicked off a contest in which lucky winners will have the opportunity to grab a pair of Google's Glasses. All interested parties have to do is tell Google through Google+ or Twitter what they would do if they had Google Glass. Applications must be 50 words or less, can include pictures and video, and must include the tagline #ifihadglass. The contest ends on Feb. 27, and the winners will have to fork over $1,500 and fly to New York, Los Angeles, or San Francisco to pick up the device in person.
Google has also launched a Google Glass website, complete with details about the competition and this new video:
Google is hoping that Google Glass will completely change the way people interact with their tech devices. If successful, it will help kickstart wearable, hands-free computing, and allow users to make phone calls, get suggestions on where to eat, and connect to social networks. Google has been placing emphasis on the ability of the Google Glass to help people capture moments through pictures and video just as it looks through their eyes. If all goes well, Google Glass will certainly be one of the hottest devices this holiday season, but we'll have to wait and see if it is priced reasonably enough to become widely used.
