50 Shades of Grey has a new rival, or at least a new imitator. Headline Publishing Group recently acquired rights to a new trilogy based on fan fiction inspired by the Twlight series, reports The Bookseller.

The Submissive, the first installment of The SubmissiveTrilogy, was originally published as online fan fiction in 2009, says Bookseller, and the plot bears a strong resemblance to the storyline of 50 Shades.

According to Amazon's synopsis, The Submissive tells the story of Abby King, a young librarian who offers herself as a new 'submissive' for domineering Nathaniel West, "the brilliant and handsome CEO of West Industries...After only one weekend with the Master, Abby knows she needs more, and fully submits to Nathaniel's terms. But despite the pleasure he takes in Abby's willing spirit, the Nathaniel hidden behind the rules remains cold and distant."

Headline Publishing will release an e-book edition this month, and the print version will released in June in the UK. And the other two books in the trilogy, The Dominant and The Training, will be released in quick succession in 2013.

"Our sales strategy will be to keep momentum high throughout the year, backed up by a massive consumer campaign," Headline sales director Barbara Ronan told Bookseller.

Yet another 50 Shades-esque book about a dominant-submissive relationship, Beautiful Bastard, made headlines recently when it scored a movie deal with Constantin Film. (Read more about that here).

With the way things are going, can a movie deal for The Submissive be far behind?
