Obsidian Entertainment started to develop a game known as Aliens: Crucible for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 that took place in an Aliens universe and that was canceled in 2009.

But footage from a pre-alpha version of the nixed game has been leaked.

News of the leak circulated following a post from Reddit user Wild_Marker whose alert caught the attention of the gaming gurus at IGN.

The 13 minutes of leaked footage from the development version of Aliens: Crucible was posted on Unseen64.

And the gaming site also reported that animations from the canceled Aliens game also surfaced within the last few days.

The animation reel was posted on the website of the Official Xbox Magazine, courtesy of DSOGaming, and is attributed to Danny Garnett who worked as an animator with Obsidian from 2008 until 2009, but now works at Sony Computer Entertainment America.

In other Obsidian news, the company's Aliens: Colonial Marines hit shelves Feb. 13 and is based on the 1979 sci-fi flick Alien.

But the newly released game has been ill received in the gaming community and received a "BAD" review from IGN's Tristan Ogilvie who rated the Colonial Marines at a meek 4.5.

"Consequently, Colonial Marines is for the most part a disappointingly mundane, run 'n' gun first-person shooter that fails to captivate once the initial rush of nostalgia has worn off," Ogilvie said in his review of the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 game. "At its worst, it simply feels unfinished -- which is a surprise given how long it's been in development."
