The Oscar winners will be unveiled on Sunday, but before Hollywood celebrates the best in film in 2012, the worst will also be exposed during the Golden Raspberry Awards the night before.
The worst picture category features "Battleship," " The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventureâ¨," "That's My Boyâ¨," "A Thousand Wordsâ¨," and "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2." "Battleship" received a 34 percent approval from the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes with critics stating that "It may offer energetic escapism for less demanding film-goers, but Battleship is too loud, poorly written, and formulaic to justify its expense -- and a lot less fun than its source material." "Oogieloves" received 29 percent with critics stating "Although it may serve as a passing diversion for very young viewers, The Oogieloves fails to offer much more than several brightly colored examples of the worst stereotypes of modern children's entertainment." "That's My Boy" got 21 percent approval while "A Thousand Words" received no positive reviews from 54 critics. The final "Twilight" movie was the best reviewed of the lot with 48 percent approval.
The last three "Twilight" movies obtained recognitions for Worst Picture during the last three years, but none has won the award yet. Eagle News predicts that "Battlefield" is the frontrunner to win while Gold Derby predicts a big (or dreadful) night for Adam Sandler's "That's My Boy."
Gold Derby also predicts the Adam Sandler flick will take home Worst Actor, Worst Supporting Actor, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay and Worst Couple. Adam Sandler's film "Jack and Jill" was the big winner last year, so it is clear that the organization does not like Sandler's work.
Both publications agree that Rihanna will win Worst Supporting Actress for her role in "Battleship" and that Twilight will get recognized for Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off, or Sequel.
