The noose has tightened around Arsene Wenger after Arsenal's 3-1 Champions league loss against Bayern Munich.
The loss almost eliminated Arsenal from winning any tournament this season. The Gunners were eliminated from the FA Cup after losing to Blackburn this weekend currently sit 21 points behind first place Manchester United in the English premier league.
The match got off to a bad start for Arsenal. Theo Walcott had an opportunity to run down the middle to break away, but the Munich defense forced him wide and his cross came to nothing. Moments later, Munich raced back down the field and a cross on the right flank sailed past a lunging Arsenal defender and was met with a one-timed blast from Toni Kroos to make it 1-0 for Bayern Munich. The remainder of the period featured sloppy play from Arsenal and more chances from Munich. Eventually, Thomas Muller tapped the German side capitalized in the 21st minute when a corner kick cross in; the Arsenal defense looked disorganized on the play.
Arsenal finally showed signs of life after the half when Lukas Podolski scored off a corner kick cross. The goal ignited the English club, but Munich restored its two-goal cushion when a Phillip Lahm cross was tapped in by Mario Mandzukic at the 77 minute mark.
The three away goals clearly give Munich the advantage as the German side can afford to lose at home without allowing more than two goals. Arsenal must not only win, but also score three or more goals and win by at least two or three.
The return leg between the two clubs will take place on March 13 in Munich.
