“50 Shades” fans may have just lost a potential candidate to fill the role of Anastasia Steele. Actress Mila Kunis (“Oz the Great and Powerful”) was recently asked if she was interested in the role and she told ‘Extra’ host Mario Lopez that she was not interested in the role. However, the actress added that she was “not disinterested” in the role either.

Kunis, who late January told reporters that playing the lead in the erotic adaptation would be “a good time,” has been among fans top contenders since early October 2012. The 29-year-old actress has been doing fairly well in recent fan polls conducted by Latinos Post, beating out longtime favorites Alexis Bledel (‘Gilmore Girls’) and Nina Dobrev (‘The Vampire Diaires’).

During the last fan poll conducted by Latinos Post, Kunis came in second place with 26.25 percent of the votes. She was beat by a narrow margin by ‘Game of Thrones’ actress Emilia Clarke, who earned 26.85 percent of the votes. Bledel, who came in fourth with 17.28 percent, was beaten by “Like Crazy” star Felicity Jones (24.01 percent).

Speculation over who will take the role of Anastasia Steele in the film adaptation of E.L. James’ bestselling erotic series “50 Shades of Grey,” has paled in comparison to the talk over who will take the role of Christian Grey. However, the rumor mill for casting of the film has been pretty much non-stop since the book’s film rights were purchased by Universal Pictures and Focus Films in early 2012.

Fans will be forced to wait on the casting decision, as both James and her screenwriter Kelly Marcel have told the media that no decisions will be made until the script is finished and the production team has chosen a director. Marcel joined the production team in the beginning of October 2012 and has not yet announced that she has finished writing the script. No word has been made on the film’s director either.

The first film in the reported four-part series, “50 Shades of Grey,” has yet to establish a release date.
