Show creator extraordinaire Shonda Rhimes never disappoints and last week's episode of 'Grey's Anatomy' was no exception. Faced with the ever growing pressure of a crumbling hospital, Derek (Patrick Dempsey), Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), Christina (Sandra Oh), Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) surprised viewers and Chief of Staff Owen (Kevin McKidd) with their simultaneous resignations.

The doctors' surprise resignation was not something that was decided on a whim. After mounting pressure from potential buyers Pegasus (which forces doctors in the hospitals they run to work in an almost factory like environment), the five doctors decided to brainstorm for a solution to Seattle Grace-Mercy West's financial problem.

Their solution? To use the money they won in the lawsuit settlement, $15 million each, to buy the hospital themselves. However, buying the hospital is not that easy. Derek contacts his financial advisor, who lets them know that they'll have to form their own company and partner up with a profit or non-profit organization to sponsor them so they can not only own the hospital, but work there too. However, their plan will require them to keep the truth from Owen, who has been counting on them to help see the buy-out pull through.

Meanwhile, April (Sarah Drew) is forced to ask her former friend/lover Jackson (Jesse Williams) for some very awkward dating advice. Although he initially acts like a bit of a jerk, Jackson comes around and gives April the best advice he can come up with-tell the truth about her found-again virginity. But April and Jackson aren't the only ones with love trouble. Alex (Justin Chambers) is starting to feel more and more attracted to his intern Jo (Camilla Luddington) and thinks she likes him too. Unfortunately for him, Jo has other plans and heads out on a date with another doctor on staff.

In the upcoming episode of 'Grey's Anatomy,' entitled "This Is Why We Fight," the repercussions of Derek, Meredith, Christina, Callie and Arizona's decision are felt. News of the hospital's financial dilemmas spreads causing Jackson's mother Catherine (guest star Debbie Allen) to encourage him to move back to Boston to work on their family's foundation. The financial trouble also has the interns worrying that they'll soon be out of a job.

Meanwhile, the doctors meet up with a potential investor, ABC teases, in a "last-ditch effort to save the hospital." Back at the hospital, Alex will impress Jo while caring for a patient, but will it be enough to get her full interest?

'Grey's Anatomy' S9E16, "This Is Why We Fight," airs on Thursday, February 21 at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
