Emma Watson defended her friend Kristin Stewart in a recent interview with Vanity Fair Italia, saying that Stewart's cheating scandal "held her up to an unfair standard," reported omg!

Stewart, 22, was caught cheating on her "Twilight" costar Robert Pattinson last summer with married director Rupert Sanders.

Watson did not directly address the affair, but she said the media had violated Stewart's privacy by making the details so public.

"I thought that the media picked on her in a very horrible way," she told Vanity Fair. "Kristen is human, just like everybody else, and she's so young. Everybody makes mistakes, everyone. It's not fair to consider them matters of public interest."

She added, "On the one hand, I can understand why it happened: people felt really involved in her relationship with Robert Pattinson. But it's also true that they both have done everything in their power to keep their relationship as far from the public eye as possible."

Watson and Stewart struck up a friendship last November, when they reportedly had a "girls night out" along with "Hunger Games" star Jennifer Lawrence, Us Weekly reports.

"I think people assume that actresses don't want to [be friends]," Steward told MTV, adding that hanging out and bonding with Watson and Lawrence "was kind of a great feeling."

Watson recently finished filming Sophia Coppola's The Bling Ring, about, says IMDB, "a group of fame-obsessed teenagers [who] use the Internet to track celebrities' wherabouts in order to rob their homes."
