Hold on to your seats 'Vampire Diaries' fans. A new promo poster released by the CW appears to hint at the demise of one of everyone's favorite Salvatore brother, Damon (Ian Somerhalder).

The poster, which was released on Wednesday, shows Damon looking intensely ahead with a rope noose tied around his neck. The words, "Give him enough rope..." ominously printed above him. As the team of vampires, witches and vampire hunters go on the hunt for the cure to vampirism, could Damon take a shot for his beloved Elena (Nina Dobrev)?

In an interview with TVGuide, Somerhalder said, "It's pretty plain and simple. Damon has no desire for himself or Elena to take this crap [the cure] and he's thinking, 'Why would one want to do that?'" The actor, who's in a real life relationship with costar Nina Dobrev, added, "But it's what she wants and the whole reason Damon is here is for the woman he loves. Her desire and her safety is his whole life at this point."

Damon certainly loves Elena enough to put himself in danger for her but will he have to make the ultimate sacrifice in order to get the cure for her? The poster certainly seems to imply so. According to TV Line, Damon has "a bloody run-in with a hunter (guest star Charlie Bewley)" in next week's episode.

To add to fans' worry, E! News reported that Dobrev said, "Something happens in the near future, something pretty tragic and terrible and kind of show changing. It's going to really affect every single person. It's going to especially affect Damon, Elana and Stefan in a pretty crazy, controversial way. The whole show is going to shift. It's going to be explosive."

Well color us intrigued. 'The Vampire Diaries' airs a new episode tonight, "Into the Wild," at 8 p.m. EST on the CW.
