Sony is going to sweeten the deal even more on its new flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z. That is, at least for customers in the United Kingdom.
For customers that pre-order the upcoming new Xperia Z handset, Sony is offering a nice new pair of headphones. The offer, a free pair of SONY MDR-1R Prestige headphones, is worth $299. To get the free headphones, customers will have to order the Xperia Z smartphone through two different venues. If you order the Xperia Z from O2, it has to be the purple one to qualify for the freebie. If you go through Three, you can order the standard black and white units to get the headphones, according to UberGizmo.
Three has limited the free extra to the first 1,000 pre-orders, and O2 says that they won't carry a huge quantity of the headphones either, so if you want them, you've got to pre-order in a hurry because a deal like this will probably not last very long. And surely that's exactly why Sony put this deal together - to gin up buzz on Xperia Z sales and a create a rush to pre-order.
Even on its own, though, the Xperia Z seems like an unusually strong offering from Sony. It has a 5-inch 1080p display, a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, a 13-megapixel camera, and comes with Android Jelly Bean 4.1, but Sony will roll out an update to Jelly Bean 4.2 soon after launch. Read the the three things that make the Xperia Z unique, like being waterproof, which may make Sony a new major competitor on the smartphone market.
