Kim Kardashian was the most-searched person on Bing in 2012, even topping Justin Bieber, according to Reuters. She has over 17 million Twitter followers and it seems like every Tweet or Instagram photo she posts makes headlines.
So who better to speak at a social media conference? Taking a break from all the Kanye-Kris-baby bump tabloid craziness, Kim gave the keynote speech at a tech conference in Santa Monica, Webfest Global, and talked about how different forms of social media have influenced both her personal life and the Kardashian brand.
There were no photos allowed, but Marketing Land's Danny Sullivan live-blogged Kim's talk.
"I fell in love with social media," Kim told the crowd, "I truly believe my blog would not be here today without social media." She started blogging before Twitter existed, and liked it because it was like a visual diary, "like my own little Twitter, my community." When Twitter came along, she said it helped her interact even more with her fans.

And social media has helped her connect with her family. "I've learned so much from my little sisters by looking at their Tumblrs and Instagrams," she said. "I know it sounds crazy, but I know them so much better through social media." She added that with Twitter, she can see what they are up to and even "stalk" their friends.
She even said she had once used Twitter to catch an ex-boyfriend in a lie (he said he was someplace he wasn't). But in general, Kim is glad that Twitter didn't exist throughout her early dating life.
"When I was in crazy relationships, if I had Twitter, that would have been the best stalking the device ever."

Speaking of relationships, Kim revealed that she sometimes "goes without a phone" when she's with her boyfriend. And as for Kanye, she says he has a fairly 20th-century mindset when it comes to his own phone, saying that he doesn't do much texting and just uses his phone for getting calls.
As for Kim's favorite kind of social media? "Instagram is my favorite right now, but it changes," she said. Facebook is good for branding, and "Twitter is fun," but "Instagram is such a part of your personality...you can put up quotes or photos or anything you want."
