The Chicago Blackhawks (6-0-2) will look to end their two game skid when they take on the Calgary Flames (1-3-1) Saturday night.
After winning their first games of the year, the Blackhawks have lost two straight games in the shootout. On Friday night Chicago fell victim to the stellar play of Vancouver's Roberto Luongo who stopped 27 shots in regulation and was spotless in the shootout with three additional stops. Patrick Kane continued his strong start and scored the lone goal for the Blackhawks.
"It's tough to lose in a shootout," Kane said. "I thought in the third we played pretty well."
He added, "It seemed like we were all over them, but they are a tough team. They're always going to be a rival and come out to play hard against us, especially in their building."
Despite the loss, Chicago remains in first place in the Central division.
Meanwhile, the Flames occupy the cellar of the Northwest division with just three points in fix tries. In their latest game, the Flames were doused by the Colorado Avalanche in a 6-3 game that included three Colorado goals in the final three minutes of play. Jiri Hudler scored twice for Calgary while Alex Tanguay supplied the final tally.
Captain Jarome Iginla was not pleased with that effort and stated that "We know we blew one tonight and it's not going to sit well with us, and it shouldn't...We've got to get right back at it and start climbing because now we're going to start playing every second day. We've got to finish this homestand off properly and build it in the right direction again."
