There you have it. The White House released a picture of President Obama skeet shooting at Camp David.

The photo was tweeted out today by White House Senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer, saying "POTUS shoots clay targets on the range at Camp David on Aug. 4 2012." The photo doesn't show the clay target he's aiming at, but President Obama is definitely in mid-shotgun discharge, with sunglasses and safety ear muffs on.

This is in response to a kerfuffle stirred up by critics after President Obama's interview with The New Republic discussing gun control included the question, "Have you ever fired a gun?" to which the President responded, "Yes, in fact, up at Camp David, we do skeet shooting all the time."

Critics began asking why there were never photos of this activity and why the President had never mentioned skeet shooting before. According to ABCnews, Rep. Marsha Blackburn, a Republican from Tennessee, asked, "If he is a skeet shooter, why have we not heard of this? Why have we not seen photos? Why has he not referenced it at any point in time as we have had this gun debate that is ongoing?"

On Monday, Press Secretary Jay Carney responded to reporters' questions about how often President Obama shoots skeet. "I would refer you simply to his comments," said Carney," I don't know how often. He goes to Camp David with some regularity, but I'm not sure how often he's done that."

Carney's response failed to quiet the minor controversy, which was later made fun of by John Stewart on the Daily Show, including a great parody of Dr. Seuss at the end.

*White House Senior adviser David Plouffe, new to Twitter, also tweeted the photo saying, "Attn skeet birthers. Make our day - let the photoshop controversies begin!"

Correction: David Plouffe is a former White House Senior adviser.
