It's finally here folks. Those hungry iOS owners who have been eagerly waiting for an iPhone 5 and iOS 6 jailbreak will get their wish on Super Bowl Sunday: hackers evad3rs will be launching their untethered iOS 6 evasi0n jailbreak on Feb. 3.
The untethered jailbreak is still in the process of going through testing on Windows, Mac, and Linux, although that should all be wrapping up in time for a public release on Sunday. The jailbreak is "compatible with all iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and iPad mini models running iOS 6.0 through 6.1," according to the official evasi0n website.
What this translates to is that owners of the iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4, iPod Touch 5, iPad 3, iPad 4, and iPad mini will all be able to jailbreak their devices using evasi0n.
As usual with all aftermarket software tweaks, evad3rs advises you to back up your files and make sure everything is gravy before attempting to jailbreak your device.
An iOS 6 untethered jailbreak has been in high demand for quite some time now, and while hackers had the ability to release a version to the public before, they didn't for fear of Apple fixing the bugs in iOS 6.1 and ruining all their hard work. Now that iOS 6.1 is here, it seems that the public will finally be able to properly jailbreak their Apple devices.
An untethered jailbreak, unlike a tethered version, can withstand a system reboot or battery failure without having to be resuscitated with the aid of a PC. Jailbreaking opens up a huge arena of customization for its users, complete with its own set of unofficial apps. Just bear in mind that you're forgoing any first-party support if you choose to jailbreak your device.
