Real Madrid and Barcelona drew 1-1 in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals.
The game featured a great deal of leaps and jumps from both sides.
The scoring started in the second half when Cesc Fabregas scored on a broken play. Madrid tried to clear the ball down the center, but the clear was picked off and passed to an open Fabregas who chipped it past an oncoming Diego Lopez.
Shortly after the goal, Barcelona had a chance to extend the lead as Fabregas broke away from Madrid's defense. However, defender Varane did a last second tackle to kick the ball away.
Madrid had a chance to draw even at the hour mark as Cristiano headed a Mesut Ozil cross just wide of the net.
Lionel Messi got Barcelona's hopes up at 78 minute with a tally, but was later ruled an offside.
Just two minutes later, 19-year old Madrid defender Varane tied the match with a perfect header past Barcelona keeper Pinto.
The remainder of the game had the same level of excitement with the two sides trading chances. With under 10 minutes left, Jordi Alba broke down the left wing and had a clear shot on goal. However, goalkeeper Diego Lopez made a terrific score to preserve the draw.
Sami Khedira had a prime chance to give Madrid the lead in the waning seconds but Carles Puyol blocked the shot.
Varane and Lopez, the two debutants for Madrid, played extremely well.
