The Toronto Maple Leafs head to Madison Square Garden to face off against the New York Rangers on Saturday night.
The Toronto Maple Leafs played on Thursday, Jan. 24th against the New York Islanders and were defeated 7 to 4. Regardless of their strong first period, when they dominated the Islanders 3-1, the Maple Leafs gave up two goals in the second period and ended up losing the game when they imploded, giving up four goals in the third. The Maple Leafs have looked good offensively thus far, but their goaltending has been the main problem. Ben Scrivens conceded five goals to the Islanders in Thursday's game.
The Rangers also played Thursday night against the Philadelphia Flyers and lost 2-1. Despite the Flyers playing without two-thirds of their top line, they were able to score a pair of goals in the second period from secondary sources and had an incredible third period penalty kill. The Rangers' top line, which had dominated the Boston Bruins a day earlier, was completely shutdown by Philadelphia. The Rangers have only won one game this year and are at the bottom of the Atlantic division.
The Jan. 26th game marks the first of three encounters the Maple Leafs and Rangers will have this season. Last year, Toronto finished in last place in their division but still managed to win the series against the Rangers with two wins, one loss, and one overtime loss.
Predictions: The Rangers are better than their record indicates. Toronto's goalkeeping is as poor as it looked against the Islanders. Look for the Rangers to dominate this game 5-2.
