Ninja Theory's Devil May Cry reboot stirred a hornets' nest when the developer revealed a redesigned Dante, and endured further flak from fans who were unsatisfied with the tweaked combat system alongside a 30 frames-per-second gameplay speed. Despite the impressive critical reception DmC has received in the review circuit, a nostalgic group of players remain steadfast in their rejection Dante's latest scuffle with demons and angels alike.

While it's doubtful that Ninja Theory will smooth over its damaged relationship with this vocal slice of gamers, they are extending an olive branch in the form of new downloadable skins that bring back the protagonists' character design from Devil May Cry 3. GameSpot reports that the classic Dante look will be bundled with 'Dark Dante' and 'Neo Dante', "with the former offering a sleek blue coat and the latter Converse sneakers, a ragged t-shirt and a belt that covers his entire stomach." The DLC will cost 320 Microsoft points ($4.00). PC gamers who pre-order DmC prior to its Jan. 25 launch will receive the content for free.

Other upcoming DLC includes the premium "Vergil's Downfall" expansion, and the free "Bloody Palace" mode. Vergil's Downfall was offered as a free promotion to those who preordered DmC from GameStop or EB Games, but everyone else will have to pony up 720 Microsoft points when it releases in early 2013. While the title is self-explanatory, the content puts players in the shoes of Dante's twin brother Vergil, and will likely document the character's development into the villain he becomes in Devil May Cry 3. Bloody Palace will introduce a challenge mode with over 100 levels of enemies and five bosses. Faithful fans will recognize the mode from every entry of Devil May Cry since its second outing.
