Leading into and heading out of the President Barack Obama's second inauguration, the pollsters were still hard at work figuring out public opinion of the commander-in-chief.
A Fox News poll conducted between Jan. 15 and 17, under the collaboration of Anderson Robbins Research and Shaw & Company Research, telephoned 1,008 registered voters.
With a margin of error of three percent, President Obama's approval rating was tied at 47 percent. Six percentage of the registered voters were categorized as "Don't know."
The 47 percent tie is a change from the Jan. 2009 numbers when the president had an approval rating of 65 percent and only 16 percent disapproved, 19 percent were unsure.
The last Fox News poll of 2012, from Dec. 9 to 11, had President Obama at 48 percent in positive territory while 46 percent disapproved. Six percent refused to answer.
Rasmussen Reports conducted their own poll and has shown a downward trend for the commander-in-chief in the "Presidential Approval Index." The daily tracking poll from Jan. 16 to Jan. 23 has seen a decrease of one percentage point.
The new Jan. 23 poll shows better numbers than the Fox News poll. Obama's approval rating stands at 55 percent while 43 percent disapprove
The Rasmussen poll has had the president at 55 percent since Jan. 20, while Jan. 18 and Jan. 19 had an approval rating of 54 percent.
The Rasmussen organization polled 1,500 likely voters.
