Rudy Eugene, the man who was caught chewing on another man's face in a busy highway in Miami last Saturday, came only to a stop when gunned down by Miami police forces.

In a period of 18 minutes, the naked 31-year-old Eugene was able to strip naked the 65-year-old victim, Ronald Poppo, a man who's been homeless for 30 years, and attack his face violently.

Not only did Eugene chew Poppo's mouth away, but also his nose and ears to a point where Poppo's bones were visible.

Poppo remains in critical condition in Jackson Memorial Hospital and a campaign on GiveForward was launched online to help gather donations for Poppo. Donate to Poppo by here: www.giveforward.com/ronaldpopporecovery

Witnesses describe that the beastly and cannibalistic attacks on the penniless man involved biting, chewing, tearing away, and that the scene was stained with blood everywhere.

The incident started at about 1:55 p.m. and almost 20 minutes later, a Miami police officer shot Eugene down and killed him after he refused to continue attacking Poppo.

The Miami Herald's surveillance cameras were also witnesses of, arguably, the goriest crime to hit the region for years and the obtained footage shows the moment the attack started as well as the moment Eugene was killed.

The unprovoked attack on the homeless man is one tragic happening with Sgt. Javier Ortiz describing it with, "It was not only grotesque, it was just very sad, the amount of blood. It was very sad to see what happened to this gentleman that had his face eaten," according to the Associated Press.

The zombie-styled attack was carried out by a man his ex-wife, Jenny Ductant, described to WPLG-TV as "somewhat paranoid, but not really mentally ill."

The motives behind the attack are not clear and according to the police, stimulants or other types of drugs may have played a role in the attack.

The results for he toxicology tests on Rudy Eugene should be announced in a couple of weeks.

The donation site launched for Ronald Poppo's recovery states:

"For Ronald Poppo, the victim of the gruesome "zombie" attack in Miami. He has experienced savagery, let him now experience humanity."

The organizer is Fredo Gonzalez and the fundraiser ends on August 31, 2012.
