During last week's episode of 'Grey's Anatomy,' the doctors affected by the deadly plane crash last May finally won their settlement, raking in $15 million each. Meanwhile, a month after his wife Adele (guest star Loretta Devine) passed away, Richard (James Pickens Jr.) continues to grieve her death and takes out his frustrations on Jackson's (Jesse Williams) mother Catherine (guest star Debbie Allen).
It seems like the doctors of Seattle Grace-Mercy West are finally coming to terms with the deadly crash that killed Meredith's (Ellen Pompeo) sister Lexie (Chyler Leigh) and Derek's (Patrick Dempsey) best friend Mark (Eric Dane). At the beginning of the episode, Meredith, Derek, Arizona (Jessica Capshaw), Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Christina (Sandra Oh) find out that they've won their case against the hospital and are each awarded $15 million dollars. Callie wants to celebrate but the others are unsure.
Callie finally convinces the group to head out to dinner to celebrate and Christina tries to invite her now ex-husband Owen (Kevin McKidd) to come out with them. He refuses, saying that Derek still blames him for the accident that injured one of his hands.
During the dinner, Derek relents and gives Owen a call to let him know that he doesn't blame him any more and that he should join them for dinner, but again Owen refuses. At the end of the call, fans see as Owen enters a conference room full of hospital administration and lawyers to find out that their insurance will not pay the $15 million and that the hospital will have to go bankrupt and close its doors.
Meanwhile, Richard rejects the advances of Catherine and blames her for him not being more present in Adele's life the past couple of months. However, he comes to realize that it isn't her fault and goes to her during dinner to get comforted. Catherine's son Jackson, in the meantime, is forced to tell his former best friend and sex buddy April (Sarah Drew) that he's been sleeping with an intern. She's noticeably upset and tells him that she can't be friends with him because it hurts her too much.
In the upcoming episode, entitled "Walking on a Dream," Arizona must deal with the emotional and physical pain of her phantom limb that is driving her crazy. Meredith, on the other hand, is forced to deal with her pregnancy hormones, which make her overly emotional and a bit sexually driven. According to ABC, the soon-to-be mom is "confronted with her worst fear" during the episode.
Meanwhile, the doctors of Seattle Grace-Mercy West are "on edge when a new medical professional enters the hospital," ABC teases. Constance Zimmer ('Entourage') and Justin Bruening ('All My Children') will guest star.
'Grey's Anatomy' S9E12, "Walking on a Dream," airs Thursday, January 24 at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
