HBO is said to be planning a "Game of Thrones" movie to be released after the TV series ends in season 8. At the helm of the movie is the TV series writers David Benioff and DB Weiss. The information was revealed by no other than George RR Martin himself.

"There will be a movie," Martin told UK's Daily Star Sunday. "That is something HBO and the DB and David are dealing with," Martin further said.

Unfortunately, he will not be involved in the filmmaking because he has too much to do, Martin explained. He went on telling that he had two more books to write and the fans are really upset for being the slow writer that he is. Hence, he cannot accommodate any involvement with the said "Game of Thrones" movie, Martin explained.

A "Game of Thrones" movie is actually a not far-fetched idea. HBO had in the past translated its hit TV series, "Sex And The City," into the large screen. In fact, the series had gave birth to two films, one released in 2008 and another in 2010.

With the "Games of Thrones" breaking the record at the recently concluded Emmys, a movie will hence be very much anticipated. "Game Of Thrones" won the Best writing for a Drama, Best Directing for a Drama, Best Supporting Actor in a Drama and the major award of being the Best Drama Series. It also won eight awards at the Creative Arts Emmys held on Sept. 12.

The plot of the film is already at the drawing board, according to a production insider who has spoken with the Daily Star on condition of anonymity. People at the helm of the project are thinking of going back in time, resurrecting characters that have died in the series -- like Robb Stark, Catelyn Stark, Oberyn Martell The Red Viper and Ned Stark -- the insider said.

"With the Game Of Thrones universe there is much rich material and no constraints on when that story will take place. They are looking at dipping back in time during certain periods of the series, which could be examined as a one-off the plot," the source revealed.

"George has written about a raft of other characters in the books, which have been as long as 1,200 pages. Some of those could be used for a completely separate idea and plot. George has created such an expansive universe of characters over 8,000 years of history, the possibilities are endless," the insider went on saying.
