The Golden Globes have announced their nominations with "12 Years a Slave" leading the nominees.

The film was nominated for Best Film, Best Director for Steve McQueen, Best Actor for Chiwetel Ejiofor, Best Supporting Actress for Lupita Nyong'o, and Best Supporting Actor for Michael Fassbender. The film was also nominated for Best Screenplay and Best Score.

"12 Years a Slave" was joined in the Best Picture drama category by "Philomena," "Captain Phillips," "Gravity" and "Rush."

Ejiofor was nominated for the Best Actor Drama alongside Robert Redford for "All is Lost," Tom Hanks for "Captain Phillips," Idris Elba ("Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom"), and Matthew McConaughey for "Dallas Buyers Club."

The Best Actress drama category was made up of Cate Blanchett for "Blue Jasmine," Sandra Bullock for "Gravity," Kate Winslet for "Labor Day," Judi Dench for "Philomena" and Emma Thompson for "Saving Mr. Banks­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­."

Meanwhile, "American Hustle" led the Best Picture Comedy category. That film was nominated for Best Actor for Christian Bale, Best Actress for Amy Adams, Best Supporting Actor for Bradley Cooper, Best Supporting Actress for Jennifer Lawrence, Best Director for David O. Russell, and Best Screenplay.

"Hustle" was joined by "The Wolf of Wall Street," "Nebraska," "Her" and "Inside Llewyn Davis" in the Best Comedy motion picture category.

Bale was joined by Leonardo DiCaprio ("The Wolf of Wall Street), Oscar Issac ("Inside Llewyn Davis"), Bruce Dern ("Nebraska") and Joaquin Phoenix ("Her") for Best Actor Comedy/Musical.

Meanwhile, Adams will compete with Meryl Streep ("August: Osage County"), Julia Louis-Dreyfus ("Enough Said"), Greta Gerwig ("Frances Ha") and Julie Delpy ("Before Midnight").

The Best Supporting Actor saw Cooper ("American Hustle"), Jared Leto ("Dallas Buyers Club"), Daniel Bruhl ("Rush"), and Barkhad Abdi ("Captain Phillips") compete against Fassbender.

Nyong'o and Lawrence were joined by Sally Hawkins ("Blue Jasmine"), Julia Roberts ("August Osage County"), and June Squibb ("Nebraska") in the Best Supporting Actress category.

McQueen and Russell were nominated for director alongside Paul Greengrass ("Captain Phillips"), Alfonso Cuaron ("Gravity") and Alexander Payne ("Nebraska").

"American Hustle" and "12 Years a Slave's" screenplays were joined by "Her," "Nebraska," and "Philomena" in the best screenplay category.

Hans Zimmer's score for "12 Years a Slave" will compete for best score against Alex Ebert for "All is lost," Alex Heffer for "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom," John Williams for "The Book Thief," and Steven Price for "Gravity."

The nominees for Best Song were "Atlas" from "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire"; "Let it Go" from "Frozen"; "Ordinary Love" from "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom"; "Please Mr. Kennedy" from "Inside Llewyn Davis"; and "Sweeter than Fiction" from "One Chance."

The Foreign Language Film nominees included France's "Blue is the Warmest Color," The Great Beauty," "The Hunt," "The Past," and "The Wind Rises."

The Animated film nominees were "The Croods," "Despicable Me 2" and "Frozen."

The Golden Globes will be handed out on Jan. 12 by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
